Hard Start

- Verify that the driver is using the correct starting procedure as described in the owners manual.
- Verify that the ECT has not shifted in value. Refer to Temperature Versus Resistance (EGT Sensors) , Temperature Versus Resistance (EGR Temperature Sensors) , Temperature Versus Resistance (Reductant Injector) , Temperature Versus Resistance (Reductant Tank Temperature Sensor) and Temperature Versus Resistance (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) .
- Inspect for a slow cranking speed. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Electrical .
- Inspect for a condition in which air is being drawn into the supply side of the fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .
- Inspect the engine electrical system for correct operation. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Electrical .
- Inspect for a restriction in turbocharger inlet duct.
- Inspect for proper operation of the fuel heater. The Fuel Heater should turn ON and OFF when commanded with a scan tool. Refer to DTC P2687-P2689
- Inspect for a restriction or a leak in the intake manifolds.
- Inspect the exhaust system for a possible restriction. Refer to Restricted Exhaust (2.0L Diesel LUZ) .
- Inspect for excessive crankshaft endplay that will cause the CKP sensor reluctor wheel to move out of alignment with the CKP sensor.
