Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:

Refer to the following for the fuel pump relay harness terminal identification.

Terminal 30 - passenger side rear

Terminal 85 - driver side rear

Terminal 87 - driver side front

Terminal 86 - passenger side front

  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, it may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Verify the fuel pump is not running.
    • If the fuel pump is running 

      Repair the short to voltage in the fuel pump control circuit.

    • If the fuel pump is not running 
  3. Disconnect the harness connector at the G12 Fuel Pump.
  4. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If 10 Ω or greater. 

      Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

    • If less than 10 Ω. 
  5. Ignition ON.
  6. Command the Fuel Pump Relay ON with the scan tool. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the fuel pump control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate. 
    1. Remove the KR23A Fuel Pump Relay
    2. Command the Fuel Pump Relay ON with the scan tool. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the primary control circuit terminal 85 and ground.
      • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test for an open/high resistance in the circuit. If the circuit test normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
      • If the test lamp illuminates.
    3. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the fuel pump relay battery positive voltage circuit terminal 87 and ground.
      • If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit, replace the fuse if necessary.
      • If the test lamp illuminates.
    4. Connect a 15 A fused jumper wire between the fuel pump relay battery positive voltage circuit terminal 87 and the fuel pump control circuit terminal 30.
    5. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the fuel pump harness connector control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
      • If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If the test lamp illuminates.
    6. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, it may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
    7. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 86 and ground.
      • If 10 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 10 Ω, replace the KR23A Fuel Pump Relay
    • If the test lamp illuminates. 
  7. Replace the G12 Fuel Pump.
