Possible Causes of an Engine Overspeed

- Aftermarket power-up devices
- Leaking or failed turbocharger oil seals
- Oil evident in the intake runners and compressor side of the turbocharger
- Starting fluid use or alternative fuel added to the engine such as ether
- Sludge build-up in the engine crankcase due to the use of diesel fuel containing more than 20% bio-diesel or excessive idling without allowing the completion of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration
- Excessive oil build-up in the charge air cooler
