The diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) or catalytic converter, main function is to control emissions of Non Methane Hydro Carbons (NMHC) and soluble organic fraction (SOF). The secondary function of the catalytic converter is to assist with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration, by obtaining and sustaining the temperature necessary for regeneration. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors.
