Smoke Test Application

  1. Ignition OFF, remove the hose clamp securing the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose to PCV tube (Located toward the front of the engine.) and connect the GE-41415-303  to the PCV hose. Secure the connection with a hose clamp.
  2. Disconnect the MAF sensor from the air cleaner cover. Place a disposable plastic bag over the end of the MAF sensor, re-connect the sensor to the cover and secure it with the existing hose clamp, to prevent smoke leakage through the air cleaner.
  3. Connect the GE-41415-303  to the GE-41413-A  and apply smoke continuously while moving all duct work, pipes and tubes.
  4. Verify smoke is not visible exiting the engine, including the components listed below:
    NOTE:
    • To improve the visibility of the smoke exiting the engine, illuminate the suspected leak area with the GE-41413-SPT  and observe the area from different angles.
    • All air induction system hose clamps.
    • Air cleaner outlet duct.
    • Charge air cooler inlet and outlet hoses.
    • Charge air cooler.
    • Intake manifold gaskets and seals.
    • Mass airflow sensor.
    • Positive crankcase ventilation hoses/pipes/tubes.
    • Positive crankcase ventilation oil separator.
    • If smoke is visible 

      Repair or replace the affected gasket, seal, clamp or component as necessary and repeat steps 3 and 4.

    • If smoke is not visible 
  5. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Induction System Air Leak Test) , Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Induction System Smoke Test)  and Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis  and perform the Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Induction System Air Leak Test).
