The engine control module (ECM) controls the fuel injection pulses. There are three types of injection events during engine warm-up. A Pre-Injection Pulse that is used to warm the combustion chamber before the Main Injection Pulse that creates the engines power and a Post Injection Pulse that is used to create heat in the diesel oxidation catalyst.
