Circuit/System Testing

- Verify DTC P2200 or P229E is not set.NOTE: P2200 and P229E indicate a B195 NOx Sensor internal circuit failure. If P2200 or P229E is not set, continue directly to step 2 and follow the remainder of the diagnostic.
- If P2200 or P229E is set
Replace the appropriate B195 NOx Sensor.
- If P2200 or P229E is not set
- If P2200 or P229E is set
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Induction system leaks-Refer to Induction System Smoke Test in Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Induction System Air Leak Test) , Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Induction System Smoke Test) and Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis .
- Exhaust system leaks-Refer to Exhaust Leakage .
- A loose or disconnected charge air cooler hose or pipe
- Physical damage
- Soot plugged B195 NOx Sensor
- Loose or missing hardware
- If a condition is found
Repair the intake or exhaust system.
- If no condition is found
- Engine running at normal operating temperature and scan tool NOx Sensor 1 and NOx Sensor 2 are active.
- Verify NOx Sensor 1 NOx Concentration and NOx Sensor 2 NOx Concentration are greater than 0 ppm.
- Accelerate vehicle to 72 km/h (45 mph) and hold at a steady cruise until the DTC reports PASS or FAIL.WARNING: Road test a vehicle under safe conditions and while obeying all traffic laws. Do not attempt any maneuvers that could jeopardize vehicle control. Failure to adhere to these precautions could lead to serious personal injury and vehicle damage.NOTE: The following step must be performed twice in order for DTC P11DB and P11DC to run.
- If the DTC does not pass
Replace the faulty B195 NOx Sensor.
- If the DTC passes
- If the DTC does not pass
- Ignition Off and all vehicle systems Off, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B195 NOx sensor. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.NOTE: When testing the low reference circuits, verify all vehicle systems are completely Off for at least 2 minutes. This includes retained accessory power (RAP) and the scan tool.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 4 and ground.
- If 10 Ω or greater
- Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K34 Glow Plug Control Module.
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the K34 Glow Plug Control Module.
- If less than 10 Ω
- Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K34 Glow Plug Control Module.
- Test for less than 1 V between the ignition voltage circuit and ground.
- If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate
- Ignition On for greater than 10 s, verify the test lamp illuminates.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate
- Ignition Off, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K34 Glow Plug Control Module.
- Test for infinite resistance between the ignition circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the ignition circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the, K34 Glow Plug Control Module.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Replace the B195 NOx Sensor.
