The input shaft speed (ISS) sensor is a hall-effect type sensor. The ISS detects revolutions of the intermediate shaft C2 drum. As the C2 drum rotates, the sensor produces a signal frequency based on the machined surface of the C2 drum. This signal is transmitted to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM uses the ISS signal in connection with the output speed sensor signal to control engine torque, shift timing and lock-up.
