Removal Procedure

WARNING:
When replacing either a steering wheel or driver airbag, it is mandatory that both components are sourced from the same country. Parts from different countries are not interchangeable and may cause a malfunction of the air bag system causing personal injury.

Refer to SIR Warning .
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Lower the steering column and move to the maximum rear end position.
- Rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver (1) diagonally through the service openings (2) on the back side of the steering wheel.
- The tip of the screwdriver should be in the right side of the spring fastener. (2)
- Pull the screwdriver in the opposite direction of the steering column to push the spring fastener.
- Pull the right corner of the steering wheel air bag while pulling the screwdriver until the locking tab is released.
- Pull the left corner of the steering wheel air bag while pulling the screwdriver until the locking tab is released.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.

NOTE:
The end tip of the flathead screwdriver should be vertical.
