Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Reposition the engine control module. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement .
  3. Unlock the retaining tab (2) on the battery fuse box cover.

  4. Open the battery fuse box flap (1).
  5. Unlock the retaining tab (3).
  6. Open the battery fuse box cover (1).

    NOTE: Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.
  7. Remove the battery positive cable to starter nut (2).
  8. Remove the battery positive cable to starter (3) from the battery.
  9. Remove the battery ground cable nut (1).

  10. Remove the ground cable (2).
  11. Unclip the 3 generator and starter cable retainers (1) from the body and from the transmission.

  12. Unclip the 2 generator and starter cable retainers (1) from the transmission.

  13. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  14. If equipped, remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
  15. Remove the starter ground cable nut (4) and remove the negative cable (1).

  16. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (3) and remove the starter and generator positive cable (2).
  17. Remove the generator positive cable nut (1) and remove the generator positive cable (2) from the generator.

  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Remove the generator and starter cable from the vehicle.
