Removal Procedure

WARNING: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning .
CAUTION: Do not bend the exhaust flex pipe more than 10 degrees in any direction. Bending of more than 10 degrees or twisting in a range of ±0.5 degrees will damage the exhaust flex decoupler.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  3. Remove the emission reduction fluid injector. Refer to Emission Reduction Fluid Injector Replacement .
  4. Remove the underbody rear air deflector. Refer to Underbody Rear Air Deflector Replacement .
  5. Remove the nitrogen oxide sensor - position 2. Refer to Nitrogen Oxides Sensor Replacement - Position 2 .
  6. Remove the exhaust particulate sensor. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Sensor Replacement .
  7. Remove the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Replacement (Compound Crank) and Rear Axle Replacement (Watt Linkage) .
  8. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger insulator (1) from the exhaust pipe (3).

  9. Remove the exhaust pipe bracket bolt (2) from the exhaust pipe bracket.
  10. Remove the exhaust pipe bracket.
  11. Remove the nuts (4).
    NOTE: Support the exhaust rear muffler with a jack.
    NOTE: A second technician is required.
  12. Remove and DISCARD the exhaust pipe (3) from the three way catalytic converter (6).
  13. Remove and DISCARD the gasket (5).
  14. Remove and DISCARD the 3 oxidation catalytic converter to the three way catalytic converter nuts (2).

  15. Remove the three way catalytic converter (1) from the oxidation catalytic converter (3).
  16. Remove and DISCARD the gasket (4).
  17. Support the three way catalytic converter (3).

    NOTE: A second technician is required.
  18. Remove the 2 exhaust pipe front hanger bracket bolts (7).
  19. Remove and DISCARD the 2 front suspension support bolts (8).
  20. Remove the three way catalytic converter (3) including the exhaust pipe front hanger insulators (4) and the exhaust pipe front hanger bracket (5).
  21. Remove the 2 exhaust pipe front hanger insulator nuts (6).
  22. Remove the exhaust pipe front hanger bracket (5).
  23. Remove the 2 exhaust pipe front hanger insulators (4).
