Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Crank the engine for up to 15 s.
  2. Verify that DTC P0117, P0118, P0122, P0123, P0201-P0208, P0222, P0223, P0335, P0336, P0351-P0358, P0562, P0563, P0601-P0604, P0607, P062F, P0633, P0685, P0690, P1631, P1682, or P2610 is not set.
    • If none of the DTCs are set
  3. Ignition ON.
  4. Connect a test lamp between ground and each fuse that is supplied ignition 1 voltage by the powertrain relay.
  5. Verify the test lamp illuminates ON for at least one test point of each fuse.
    • If the test lamp illuminates for at least one test point of all fuses tested
  6. Ignition OFF and all accessories OFF for 2 minutes.
  7. Ignition ON.
  8. Verify the security indicator on the instrument cluster illuminates momentarily.
    • If the Security Indicator does not stay ON and is not flashing
  9. Verify the scan tool Engine Speed parameter displays greater than 0 RPM while cranking the engine.
    • If greater than 0 RPM
  10. NOTE:

If the mass airflow sensor is faulted, the engine control module will ignore mass airflow sensor input, default to calculated airflow, and the engine will start and run .

  11. Ignition OFF, disconnect the B75B mass airflow (MAF) sensor.
  12. Crank the engine for up to 15 s.
    • If the engine does not start and run
  13. Ignition OFF.
  14. Connect the B75B mass airflow (MAF) sensor.
  15. Connect a J 26792  HEI Spark Tester between one of the T8 ignition module/coil assemblies and ground.
  16. NOTE:
    • Perform the spark test on at least one cylinder of each engine bank.
    • An erratic or weak spark is considered a no spark condition.
  17. Verify the spark tester sparks while cranking the engine.
    • If the spark tester sparks
  18. Ignition OFF and all accessories OFF, install the J 37287  adapters and CH 48027  gauge. Refer to Fuel Pressure Gauge Installation and Removal
  19. Ignition ON
  20. NOTE:
    • The Fuel Pump Enable may need to be commanded On a few times in order to obtain the highest possible fuel pressure.
    • Additional DTCs may set when using the fuel pump output control.
  21. Command the Fuel Pump Enable On several times with a scan tool.
  22. Verify the fuel pressure is between 380-520 kPa (55-76 psi) while the fuel pump is running.
    • If within the specified range
  23. NOTE:

The fuel pressure may vary slightly when the fuel pump stops operating. After the fuel pump stops operating, the fuel pressure should stabilize and remain constant.

  24. Verify that the fuel pressure does not decrease greater than 34 kPa (5 psi) in 1 min.
    • If within the specified range
  25. Verify the conditions listed below do not exist:
  26. All OK.
