Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the Q43 Valve Lifter Oil Manifold Assembly. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the fuse is good.
- Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp.
- Test for less than 5 Ω between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and the fuse.
- If 5 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 5 Ω, verify there is voltage at the fuse and the fuse is good.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the fuse is open
- Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp.
- Test for infinite resistance between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance, test all the components connected to the ignition circuit and repair or replace as necessary.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit terminal listed below.
- Cylinder 1 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 1 terminal 3
- Cylinder 4 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 2 terminal 1
- Cylinder 6 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 3 terminal 2
- Cylinder 7 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 4 terminal 5
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp, disconnect the harness connector X3 at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Test for infinite resistance between the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate
- Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between ground and the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit terminal listed below.
- Cylinder 1 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 1 terminal 3
- Cylinder 4 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 2 terminal 1
- Cylinder 6 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 3 terminal 2
- Cylinder 7 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 4 terminal 5
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp, disconnect the harness connector X3 at the K20 Engine Control Module, ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1 V between the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit and ground.
- If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Connect a test lamp between the ignition circuit terminal E and the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit terminal listed below.
- Cylinder 1 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 1 terminal 3
- Cylinder 4 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 2 terminal 1
- Cylinder 6 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 3 terminal 2
- Cylinder 7 Deactivation Solenoid Valve 4 terminal 5
- Command the Cylinder Deactivation System ON with a scan tool.
- Verify the test lamp illuminates with each command.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate
- Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp, disconnect the harness connector X3 at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Test the appropriate cylinder deactivation solenoid valve control circuit for less than 5 Ω end to end.
- If 5 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 5 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Test or replace the Q43 Valve Lifter Oil Manifold Assembly.
NOTE:
If any of the scan tool circuit status parameters displayed "Malfunction" during the Circuit/System Verification, inspect the wiring harness for signs of binding, chaffing or pinching before intake manifold removal.
