Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Verify the conditions listed below do not exist:
    • Damaged or improperly installed Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve
    • Damaged, restricted or improperly installed supercharger bypass valve actuator
    • Damaged, restricted or improperly installed supercharger bypass valve actuator linkage
    • Leaks at the supercharger manifold gaskets and supercharger intake plenum.
    • Damaged or worn supercharger components or cover. Refer to Supercharger Cleaning and Inspection
    • Leaking or restricted vacuum hoses and connections
      • If a condition exists 

        Repair or replace the component as necessary.

      • If none of the conditions exist 
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the vacuum source hose from the Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve and connect the GE-23738-A  to the hose.
  3. Engine running, verify the vacuum is 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) or greater.
    • If the vacuum is less than 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) 

      Repair the vacuum source.

    • If the vacuum is 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) or greater 
  4. Ignition OFF, reconnect the vacuum source hose to the Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve.
  5. Disconnect the boost signal hose from the Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve and connect the GE-23738-A  to the solenoid hose barb.
  6. Engine running, verify the vacuum is 3.4 kPa (1 in Hg ) or less.
    • If greater than 3.4 kPa (1 in Hg ) 

      Test or replace the Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve.

    • If 3.4 kPa (1 in Hg ) or less. 
  7. Verify the vacuum is 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) or greater when commanding the Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve to 0 % with a scan tool.
    • If the vacuum is less than 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) 

      Test or replace the Q36 Supercharger Bypass Solenoid Valve.

    • If the vacuum is 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) or greater 
  8. Disconnect the boost signal hose from the supercharger bypass valve actuator, and connect the GE-23738-A  to the hose barb.
  9. Engine idling.
  10. Verify the bypass valve actuator rod extends when slowly applying 67.7 kPa (20 in Hg ) of vacuum.
    • If the rod does not extend 
    1. Ignition OFF. Disconnect the actuator rod from the actuator linkage.
    2. Engine idling, verify the bypass valve actuator rod extends when slowly applying 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) of vacuum.
      • If the rod does not extend, replace the supercharger bypass valve actuator.
      • If the rod extends, replace the supercharger.
    • If the rod extends 
  11. Ignition OFF, disconnect the inlet vacuum signal hose from the bypass valve actuator and connect the GE-23738-A  to the hose barb.
  12. Verify the bypass valve actuator rod retracts when slowly applying 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) of vacuum.
    • If the rod does not retract 
    1. Disconnect the actuator rod from the actuator linkage.
    2. Verify the bypass valve actuator rod retracts when slowly applying 50.8 kPa (15 in Hg ) of vacuum.
      • If the rod does not retract, replace the supercharger bypass valve actuator.
      • If the rod retracts, replace the supercharger.
    • If the rod retracts 
  13. Replace the supercharger.
