Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the cylinder head and gasket. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Left Side  or Cylinder Head Replacement - Right Side .
  2. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts (211).
  3. Remove the valve lifters and guide (210).
  4. NOTE:

    Some valve lifters may be stuck in their bores because of gum or varnish deposits.

  5. Use J 3049-A  Valve Lifter Remover or equivalent in order to remove the valve lifters (if required).

  7. Remove the valve lifters (209) from the guide (210).
  8. Organize or mark the components so that they can be installed in the same location from which they were removed.
  9. Clean and inspect the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter and Guide Cleaning and Inspection .
