The fuel pump control module monitors the fuel pump control system for any conditions which may adversely affect vehicle emissions. If an adverse condition is detected, the fuel pump control module sets a fuel pump control system DTC. The fuel pump control module then sends a serial data message to the engine control module (ECM) requesting malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. When the ECM receives the message from the fuel pump control module, DTC P069E will set in the ECM.
