Circuit/System Testing

IMPORTANT:
  • Larger volume fuel tanks and/or those with lower fuel levels may require several minutes for the floating indicator to stabilize or produce smoke from a leak.
  • Refer to the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) operation manual for detailed instructions in Evaporative Emission Control System Diagnosis
  1. Disconnect the purge tube at the quick connector on the EVAP canister side of the purge solenoid valve and install the CH 48096  EVAP Service Access Port Tool.
  2. Connect the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) to the vehicle EVAP service port adapter.
  3. Use a scan tool to seal the EVAP system.
  4. Use the flow meter on the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST), calibrated to 0.51 mm (0.020 in) to determine that there is no leak in the EVAP system.
    • If a leak is detected 
    1. Use the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) to apply smoke to the EVAP system at the service access port adapter.
    2. Locate the leak using the GE 41413-SPT  High Intensity White Light.
    • No leak detected 
  5. Refer to step 10 below.
  6. To test for a restriction in the purge path.
    1. Connect the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) nitrogen/smoke hose to the J 41413-311  EVAP Plug brass cone adapter.
    2. Disconnect the hose at the fuel cap end of the GE 41415-30  Fuel Tank Cap Adapter.
    3. Connect the J 41413-311  EVAP Plug to the disconnected hose on the GE 41415-30  Fuel Tank Cap Adapter.
    4. Install the GE 41415-30  Fuel Tank Cap Adapter, filler neck end only, to the vehicle.
  7. Engine idling, command the Purge/Seal function to seal the system with a scan tool.
  8. Command the EVAP purge solenoid valve to 30 %.
  9. The vacuum/pressure gauge on the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) and the FTP parameter on the scan tool should both show vacuum.
    • If the vacuum/pressure gauge shows vacuum, but the FTP parameter does not show vacuum 

      Replace the B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.

    • If neither the FTP parameter nor the vacuum/pressure gauge shows vacuum 

      Repair the restriction in the purge path.

  10. Verify that the vacuum increases to the abort limit on the scan tool or greater than 3.2 V, and the values are similar between the scan tool and the vacuum/pressure gauge on the GE 41413-A  Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST).
    • If not within the specified range 

      Replace the B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.

    • If within the specified range 
  11. All OK
