Draining Procedure

WARNING:
When the transmission is at operating temperatures, take necessary precautions when removing the drain plug, to avoid being burned by draining fluid.
NOTE:
The fluid plug at the front of transmission must not be removed. Prior to the removing of any plug, clean the surrounding area of the plug.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- If equipped, remove the front compartment air deflector. Refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement .
- Remove and DISCARD the fluid drain plug (1).
- Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable and clean container.
- Let the transmission fluid drain for 10 minutes and record the transmission fluid amount.
- Inspect the fluid for excessive metal particles or other debris which may indicate transmission damage. Perform any necessary repairs. Change the transmission fluid if no other conditions are found.
- Install the NEW fluid drain plug (1) with thread sealing compound on the plug threads and tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
- If equipped install the front compartment air deflector, refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement .
NOTE:
DO NOT re-use the fluid drain plug.
NOTE:
This transmission is NOT equipped with a fluid level dipstick or oil level setting plug. The fluid level can only be checked by draining and filling procedure.
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
Apply thread locking compound to the plug. DO NOT re-use the old plug.
