Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  3. Use paint in order to place a match mark on the inner tie rod at the inner tie rod nut.
  4. Loosen the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut.

  6. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end nut.

    Discard the nut.

  8. Use the J-24319-B:  puller in order to separate the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

    NOTE: Count the number of rotations necessary to remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the rack and pinion inner tie rod.
  10. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the rack and pinion inner tie rod.
  11. Remove the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut.

    Discard the nut.

  12. Inspect the rack and pinion inner tie rod threads for any damage or debris. Clean or repair the rack and pinion inner tie rod as necessary.
