Fasten Safety Belt Indicators
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
There are 2 fasten safety belt indicators for this vehicle. The driver fasten safety belt reminder is monitored on the instrument panel cluster (IPC) and the passenger fasten safety belt reminder is located in the PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF status indicator near the center of the instrument panel (I/P). The fasten safety belt indicator may only be ON during RUN. The IPC illuminates the fasten safety belt indicator under the following conditions:
- During the bulb check
- The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) controls both indicators by using the serial data message communications. The SDM sends the status of the driver seat belt switch to the IPC then the IPC will either turn ON or OFF the driver seat belt indicator. The SDM also send the status of the passenger seat belt switch by a serial data message to the body control module (BCM), the BCM will then turn ON or OFF the passenger seat belt indicator. If either seat belt is unfastened, only if an occupant is seated in the front passenger seat, the SDM will illuminate the fasten safety belt indicator for 72 seconds or until the seat belt is fastened. If the seat belt is unfastened within 8 seconds following the bulb check, the IPC sends a message requesting 5 chimes to sound.
