Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Replace the drain tube seal.

  3. Replace the front of dash seal.
  4. Inspect and replace the HVAC module seals if damaged:
    • The defrost duct seal
    • The HVAC module to cross car duct seal
    • The center air outlet duct seal
    • The center floor air outlet duct seal
    • The air inlet seal
  5. Place the HVAC module in the vehicle. Align the HVAC module drain tube and front of dash studs to the vehicle.

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  7. Install the HVAC module nuts to the front of dash.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  9. Connect the recirculation actuator electrical connector.

  11. Align the center floor duct with the HVAC module.
  12. Push the center floor duct up while rotating rearward in the vehicle to install on the HVAC module.
  13. Push down on the floor duct while rotating the center floor outlet ducts to align the ducts.
  14. Slide the center floor outlet duct down into position in the floor ducts.
  15. Install the I/P tie bar. Refer to Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement .

  17. Connect the blower motor connector.

  19. Connect the blower motor resistor electrical connector.

  21. Install the heater outlet hose to the heater core.
  22. Reposition the hose clamp to secure the hose using J 38185  .

  24. Install the heater inlet hose to the heater core.
  25. Reposition the hose clamp to secure the hose using J 38185  .

  27. Install new sealing washers on the condenser tube and evaporator hose fittings.
  28. Install the condenser tube and evaporator hose to the TXV.
  29. Install the TXV nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  30. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  31. Leak test the fittings using the J 39400-A  . See Special Tools .
  32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  33. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LE5, L61) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LNF) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill) .
