Circuit/System Testing

    IMPORTANT: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
    • PPS module
    • SDM module
    • PPS wiring harness connector
    • SDM wiring harness connector
  1. Ignition ON, verify the PPS illuminates the PPS ON/OFF indicators.
  2. Ignition ON, with the scan tool. Retrieve the DTCs, refer to Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures (SS) . Verify no PPS DTCs are set.
  3. Verify that the correct PPS was installed into the vehicle.
    • If the wrong PPS was installed then replace with the correct PPS.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at PPS module.
  5. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition ON, engine ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 9 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PPS module.
  7. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the SDM.
  8. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the occupant sensor serial data circuit terminal 18 to terminal 60.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the SDM.
