DTC 81-4x, 81-5x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F), 81-63, 81-64: Internal Failure of the ODS Unit

NOTE:
  • Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed ( see COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).
  • Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES  ) and General Troubleshooting Information (see DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES)  ).
  • Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software (see SRS UNIT UPDATE ), and retest.
  1. Clear the DTC memory (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC 81-4x, 81-5x, 81-63, or 81-64 indicated? 

    YES  -Go to step 4.

    NO  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting intermittent Failures (see TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES  ). If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS ).
  5. Do the ODS unit initialization (see ODS UNIT INITIALIZATION  ).
  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  8. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO RETRIEVE DTCS ).

    Is DTC 81-4x, 81-63, or 81-64 indicated? 

    YES  -Go to step 9.

    NO  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

  9. Replace the ODS unit (see ODS UNIT REPLACEMENT  ).
  10. Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS ).
  11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  12. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO RETRIEVE DTCS ).

    Is DTC 81-4x, 81-63, or 81-64 indicated? 

    YES  -Replace the SRS unit (see SRS UNIT REPLACEMENT  ).

    NO  -The system is OK at this time.
