Differential Case Disassemble: Disassemble
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Mount the differential in a vise with soft jaws.
- Remove the differential bearings using the J 22888-20A: jaw puller with the J 8107-2: puller pilot. Use the 87 92 210: differential bearing as a base for the puller as shown.
- Disassemble the differential gear assembly by removing 12 ring gear-to-case bolts (306). Separate the differential case (320) from the ring gear (307).
An option for limited slip differential or open differential exists for some models. See inset. Both differential assemblies are serviced only as a complete assembly. The bolts, ring gear and tapered roller bearings are serviceable components.
CAUTION:
The thread on adapter must be used on the 5th gear puller when removing the differential bearings. If the adapter is not used, the puller can be damaged.
