Differential Case Assemble: Assemble
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Assemble the differential gear assembly by installing the differential case (320) to ring gear (307) using 12 ring gear-to-case bolts (306) and tighten the ring gear-to-case bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.
An option for limited slip differential or open differential exists for some models. See inset. Both differential assemblies are serviced only as a complete assembly. The bolts, ring gear and tapered roller bearings are serviceable components.
- Press the differential bearings onto the differential assembly using the J 22919: bearing installer (1). Use the 87 92 210: support (2) under the differential as shown.
- To change the differential bearing races, refer to Clutch Housing Assemble and Transmission Case Disassemble or Transmission Case Assemble .
