Clutch Rattle

Cause Action
DEFINITION: A rattle noise coming from the clutch components with the clutch disengaged or engaged.
Review the Symptoms - Clutch  and perform the necessary inspections.
Idle rattle clutch engaged Replace the clutch disc, due to faulty dampener springs. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
Clutch is improperly installed Remove the clutch and install it correctly. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
Clutch disc dampener worn or damaged
  1. Inspect the clutch disc for a broken or worn dampener.
  2. Replace the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
Clutch disc splines and input shaft splines worn
  1. Inspect the clutch disc hub to input shaft splines for excessive clearance.
  2. Replace the clutch assembly if the clutch splines are worn. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
  3. Replace the input shaft. Refer to Transmission Case Disassemble use for the Getrag 5 Speed Transmission or Transmission Disassemble use for the MU3 Transaxle.
