Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the rear tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Disconnect the rear brake pipes and the hoses from the rear axle. Refer to Rear Brake Hose Replacement (Body to Axle) or Rear Brake Hose Replacement (Axle to Caliper)
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the rear axle mounting bracket. Refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (Drum) or Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (Disc) .
- Support the rear axle with a hydraulic lift table.
- Remove the rear coil springs. Refer to Coil Spring Replacement .
- Remove the wheel bearing/hub retaining nuts from both sides. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (Disc Brake) or Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (Drum Brake) .
- Remove all rear axle mounting bracket to body bolts.
- Use the hydraulic lift table to lower the rear axle from the vehicle.
- Remove the rear axle bushing through bolts and the rear axle mounting brackets.
NOTE:
DO NOT open the hydraulic brake system to perform the following procedure.
NOTE:
Remove the wheel bearing/hubs, with the brakes and backing plate as an assembly and relocate to the side.
