Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: It is NOT necessary to remove the rear axle assembly to service the control arm bushings.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the rear coil springs from the vehicle. Refer to Coil Spring Replacement .
  4. Temporary re-install the lower rear shock bolts.

  5. Disconnect the rear park brake cables from the rear axle mounting brackets (5). Refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (Drum) or Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (Disc) .
  6. Remove the rear suspension trailing arm bracket to body bolts (2).
  7. Remove the rear axle bracket to bushing through bolts (1) and nuts (4).
  8. Remove the rear suspension control arm bracket support (3).

  9. Using the J-44570-1 or the J-44570-4 (2), J-44570-3 (1) and a hammer, remove the rear suspension insulators from the rear axle.
