Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LZE, LGD Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LZE, LGD GE47716 Fill) .
  2. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (LGD/LZE) .
  7. Disconnect the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  8. Remove the spark plug wire clip from the bracket.
  9. Disconnect and remove the right spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
  10. Remove the right spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
  11. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (LGD/LZE) .

  12. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
  13. Remove the cylinder head.

  14. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
  15. Remove the cylinder head locator dowel pins, if necessary.
