Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (LS7 or LS9)

Callout Component Name
CAUTION: The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is below 48°C (120°F). Excessive force may damage threads in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (LS9) or Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (w/o LS9) .
  2. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
  3. Remove the right catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LS7)  or Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LS3) .
1 Exhaust Manifold Bolt (Qty: 6)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) wide band thread of threadlock to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts.
  2. Tighten the bolts starting at in the center, alternating side-to-side, working outward.

Tip:  The cylinder head bolt hole threads must be cleaned and free of debris or threadlock material.

Tighten: 

  • First Pass: 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
  • Final Pass: 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
