During diagnosis, park the vehicle on a level surface.
The snapshot function on the scan tool can help find an intermittent DTC.
Verify the steering wheel and steering wheel angle sensor is installed correctly.
The vehicle should not pull in either direction while driving straight on a level surface.
Verify the steering shaft coupling to the steering gear is properly installed and aligned.
Find out from the customer the conditions under which the DTC was set. This information will help to duplicate the failure.
During high humidity conditions, condensation from the HVAC system may cause this DTC. If this DTC is reoccurring or set as a history code, inspect the steering angle sensor connector for water intrusion or corrosion.
Confirm that all tires are of the proper size and that all are matching brands. Check and adjust all tires to the stated cold air pressure as identified on the tire placard. If a mis-sized or non-matching brand tire is present, inform the customer that in order for the vehicle stability enhanced system to function normally, tires need to be a uniform size and rolling diameter.
To correct a fretting condition disconnect the suspect connector and add Nyogel lubricant 760G (dielectric grease) to both sides of the connector terminals. Then reconnect the connector and wipe away any excess lubricant. This will correct the additional terminal contact resistance due to the terminal fretting corrosion.
