Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 GMC Acadia, 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2016 Buick Enclave. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the appropriate multi-way harness connector X160 or X161, at the rear of the intake manifold, ignition ON. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Verify the scan tool Cylinder 1-6 Injector Control Circuit Status parameters display Open.
    • If not the specified value
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
    2. NOTE:

Test on the Engine Control Module side of the multi-way harness connector.

    3. Test for infinite resistance between the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector control circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Test for less than 1 V between the Q17 Fuel Injector control circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, test or replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    • If the specified value
  3. Ignition ON, connect a test lamp between the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit and low control circuits.
  4. Verify the appropriate Cylinder 1-6 Injector Control Circuit Status transitions from Open to OK.
    • If the parameter does not transition
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω on the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω on the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector low control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, test or replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    • If the parameter transitions
  5. NOTE:

Testing for the following steps is performed on the fuel injector side of the multi-way harness connector. It may be necessary to remove the intake manifold to isolate the condition.

  6. Test for 1.5-2.5 Ω between the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit and low control circuit.
    • If less than the specified range
    1. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit and low control circuit.
      • If less than infinite, repair the short between the circuits.
      • If infinite resistance, test or replace the Q17 Fuel Injector.
    • If greater than the specified range
    1. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector.
    2. Test for less the 2 Ω in the Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω
    3. Test for less the 2 Ω in the Q17 Fuel Injector low control circuit end to end.
    • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
    • If less than 2 Ω, test or replace the Q17 Fuel Injector.
    • If within the specified range
  7. Test for infinite resistance between the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector low control circuit and ground.
    • If less than infinite
    1. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the Q17 Fuel Injector high control circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the Q17 Fuel Injector low control circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance, test or replace the Q17 Fuel Injector.
    • If infinite resistance
  8. Ignition ON.
  9. Test for less than 1 V between the appropriate Q17 Fuel Injector low control circuit and ground.
    • If 1 V or greater

Repair the short to voltage on the circuit

    • If less than 1 V
  10. All OK.
