Circuit/System Testing

Seat Heating and Cooling Seat Switch Circuit Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate S31 Seat Heating and Cooling Switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 7 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify the appropriate scan tool Seat Cooled Mode Switch parameter is Off.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84 Door Switch Panel Control Module.
  4. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground. Verify the scan tool Seat Cool Mode Switch parameter is On.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84 Door Switch Panel Control Module.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S31 Seat Heating and Cooling Switch.

Cooled Seat Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate K53 or K55 Seat Blower Assembly - Back or Cushion.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit terminal 2 and battery voltage.
  5. Press the cooled seat switch through the high, medium, and low positions to OFF. The test lamp should illuminate until the OFF position is reached.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 Seat Memory Control Module.
    • If the test lamp is always ON with the switch in the OFF position, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 Seat Memory Control Module.
  6. Test for 2 k-20 kΩ between the signal circuit terminal 4 and the low reference circuit terminal 5.
    • If less than the specified range, test for a short between the signal and low reference circuits. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate E14 Seat Heating Element - Back or Cushion.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit and the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate E14 Seat Heating Element - Back or Cushion.
  7. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the K53 or K55 Seat Blower Assembly - Back or Cushion and disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate E14 Seat Heating Element - Back or Cushion.
  8. Ignition ON, cooled seat ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K53 or K55 Seat Blower Assembly - Back or Cushion.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K53 or K55 Seat Blower Assembly - Back or Cushion.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the K53 or K55 Seat Blower Assembly - Back or Cushion.

Seat Heating and Cooling Switch Indicator Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate S31 Seat Heating and Cooling Switch.
  2. Ignition ON, connect a test lamp between the control circuits listed below and ground. Command the Heated Seat Indicator ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
    • Seat cool mode indicator terminal 9
    • Low indicator terminal 6
    • Medium indicator terminal 8
    • High indicator terminal 10
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84 Door Switch Panel Control Module.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84 Door Switch Panel Control Module.
  3. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S31 Seat Heating and Cooling Switch.
