Circuit/System Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 GMC Acadia, 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2016 Buick Enclave. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When the ignition is turned ON, the air bag indicator will turn on and stay on for 8 seconds in the Instrument Panel Cluster for a bulb check. The Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) performs diagnostic tests on the SIR system during the bulb check. If any malfunction exists the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module will request the Instrument Panel Cluster to illuminate the air bag indicator steady, via serial data after the original 8 seconds. If the ignition 1 voltage is outside of the normal operating voltage range 9-16 volts, the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module will command the Instrument Panel Cluster to turn the air bag indicator ON with no DTCs present, then disables all deployment loops.
