Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the low and high side fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Fuel Pressure Relief (High Side) .
  2. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement .

  4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the high pressure fuel pump.
  5. Remove the low pressure feed pipe. Discard the pipe. Refer to Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LLT) .
  6. Remove the high pressure pipe. Discard the pipe. Refer to Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement (LLT) . Discard this pipe.
  7. CAUTION:

    Alternately loosen the fuel pump bolts one turn at a time until the pump is fully disengaged from fuel pump lifter follower. Trying to remove the pump bolts without even side-to-side loosening may result in pump plunger damage

  8. Remove and discard the high pressure fuel pump bolts (1).
  9. Remove the high pressure fuel pump (2).
  10. Remove and DISCARD the high pressure fuel pump O-ring (3).
  11. Remove and DISCARD the high pressure fuel pump gasket (4).
  12. Remove the high pressure fuel pump roller lifter (5).
