Parking Brake Shoe Inspection

Refer to Brake Dust Warning .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the rear brake caliper bracket with the rear brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
- Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
- Inspect and replace the park brake shoe and lining if any of the following conditions are found:
- Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe
- Park brake lining cracking
- Oil or fluid contamination of the park brake lining
- Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment .
- Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
- Install the rear brake caliper with the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Lower the vehicle.
NOTE:
DO NOT apply the park brake pedal with the rotors removed.
