Installation Procedure

- Install a NEW retaining ring (1) onto the wheel drive shaft.
- Insert the J 44394-A protector into the transmission.
- Apply a small amount of grease to the intermediate shaft and or the wheel drive shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Install the washer (1) on the wheel drive shaft (2).
- Ensure that the front wheel drive shaft is properly seated.
- Remove the J 44394-A protector from the oil seal.
- Install the wheel drive shaft into front strut assembly.
- Install the lower ball joint in the steering knuckle. Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement
- Install the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- Install the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
- Install the wheel drive shaft nut (1), tighten by hand.
- Insert a brass drift or punch (2) in the brake rotor so that it rest against the brake caliper mounting bracket.
- Using a torque wrench and socket (1), tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 235 N.m (173 lb ft).
- Install the wheel house panel on the vehicle. Front Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement (Acadia, Enclave, Traverse)
- Install the tire and wheel. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Check the fluid level of the transmission. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
NOTE:
The washer must be installed on the wheel drive.
