Starter Noise Diagnosis

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
2. Inspect the flywheel for the following:

* Loose flywheel bolts
* Chipped gear teeth
* Missing gear teeth
* Bent flywheel

• If not within specifications, secure the flywheel bolts or replace the flywheel.

• If all inspections were within specification, replace the starter motor.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.

* Fastener Tightening Specifications (Fastener Tightening Specifications) for the 4.3 L engine, Fastener Tightening Specifications (Fastener Tightening Specifications) for V8 gas engines or Fastener Tightening Specifications (Fastener Tightening Specifications) for the 6.6 L engine
* Engine Flywheel Replacement () for the 4.3 L engine, Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Removal (3. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Removal) for V8 gas engines or Engine Flywheel Replacement () for the 6.6 L engine
