Hub Bearing Unit Replacement: Replacement

- Raise the vehicle on a lift (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
- Remove the wheel nuts and the rear wheel.
- Remove the brake drum (see REAR BRAKE DRUM REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the hub cap (A). Pry up the stake (B) on the spindle nut (C), then remove the nut.
- Remove the hub bearing unit (A) from the spindle.
- Check the hub bearing unit for damage and cracks.
- Install the hub bearing unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque values.
- Use a new spindle nut and hub cap on reassembly.
- Before installing the spindle nut, apply a small amount of engine oil to the seating surface of the nut. After tightening, use a drift to stake the spindle nut shoulder against the spindle.
- Before installing the brake drum, clean the mating surface of the hub bearing unit and the inside of the brake drum.
- Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surface of the brake drum and the inside of the wheel.
