B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim

NOTE:

Put on gloves to protect your hands.
Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

Remove these items:
- Front door sill trim (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS ).
- Rear door sill trim (see REAR DOOR SILL AREA ).
- Front door opening seal, as needed (see step 4 ).
- Rear door opening seal, as needed (see step 3 ).
Slide the front seat forward fully.
Driver's side: pull the lower anchor cover (A) back, and remove the seat belt lower anchor bolt (B).

Remove the B-pillar lower trim (A).
1. Pull the upper portion of the trim back to release the upper hooks (B).
2. Detach the clips by pulling the trim back by hand.

Remove the upper anchor cover (A), and remove the upper anchor bolt (B).

Remove the B-pillar upper trim (A).
1. Pull the bottom of the trim back by hand to detach the hook (B).
2. Pull the upper portion of the trim back by hand to detach the upper pin (C).
3. Release the upper hook (D) by pulling the top of the B-pillar trim, and remove it from the headliner (E).

Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the clips (A) are damaged or stress-whitened replace them with a new ones.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper and lower trim and all clips on the trim with new ones (see COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the trim and replace it, if it has any of these types of damage:
  - Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar upper trim (B) and the upper hook (C)
  - Any cracks or deformation in the B-pillar lower trim (D), and any breakage in the part (E) that overlaps the B-pillar upper trim
  - Any cracks or stress-whitened areas seating surfaces (F)
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly (see C-PILLAR TRIM ).
- Make sure the trim hook is installed into the body hole securely.
- Push the clips and hooks into place securely.
- Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the upper anchor bolts before reinstallation.
