Removal Procedure

    NOTE: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution .
  1. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  2. Drain the transaxle fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Draining .
  3. Remove the left and right drive axle assemblies. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Diesel - Automatic and Manual) or Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Gasoline - Automatic Transaxle) or Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Gasoline - Manual Transaxle) .
  4. Disconnect the fluid cooler inlet and outlet hoses from the transaxle.

  6. Disconnect the shift control cable from the transaxle. Refer to Floor Shift Control Cable Replacement .
  7. Install the J 28467-B  (1) to support the engine.

  9. Disconnect the input shaft speed (ISS) sensor electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
  11. Disconnect the park/neutral position (PNP) sensor electrical connector.
  12. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector.

  14. Remove the service hall cover.
  15. Remove the torque converter bolts.

  17. Remove the damping block connection nut and bolt.
  18. Remove the rear mounting bracket bolts and rear mounting bracket.

  20. Remove the 3 upper transaxle mounting bracket bolts.

  22. Remove the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts.

  24. Secure the transaxle to a transaxle jack and DW 260-010  (1). See Special Tools .

  26. Remove the 7 lower transaxle-to-engine retaining bolts.

  28. Carefully remove the transaxle from the vehicle with the transaxle secured in the DW 260-010  (1). See Special Tools .
