Thermostat, Engine Cooling

When the coolant temperature is below 85°C (185°F) for diesel engines and below 91°C (195°F) for gas engines, the thermostat valve remains closed. This prevents circulation of the coolant from the radiator and allows the engine to warm up. After the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F) or 91°C (195°F), the thermostat valve will open.
