Intermediate Clutch Piston Travel Check

  1. Using a feeler gage, measure the piston travel between the intermediate clutch backing plate and the intermediate clutch backing plate retaining ring (629).

    Piston Travel Specification:  Piston travel should be 1.02-2.72 mm (0.040-0.107 in).

  2. If piston travel is not correct, inspect for the following conditions and repair as required.
    • Proper assembly
    • Dirt or burrs
    • Worn clutch plates, backing plate, or wave plate
    • Worn case area in the snap ring groove
