Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  3. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (4.3L Engine) .
  4. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement .

  6. Remove the crankshaft position sensor seal (O-ring).
  7. Discard the crankshaft position sensor seal (O-ring).

  9. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  10. IMPORTANT: After the composite engine front cover is removed do not reinstall the engine front cover. Always install a NEW engine front cover.
  11. Remove the engine front cover.
  12. Discard the engine front cover.
  13. Clean all sealing surfaces.
