Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Change the engine oil.
- Change the engine oil filter.
- Add GM Engine Oil Supplement to the engine oil. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
- Apply clean engine oil, or engine oil supplement or equivalent to the following components:
- The engine camshaft lobes
- The camshaft bearing journals
- The camshaft bearings
- Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
- Install three 5/16-18 x 4.0 inch bolts into the engine camshaft front bolt holes.
- Use the bolts as a handle in order to install the engine camshaft.
- Remove the 3 bolts from the front of the engine camshaft.
- If reusing the fasteners, apply threadlock to the threads of the camshaft retainer bolts. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
- Install the camshaft retainer and bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the camshaft retainer bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
- Install the balance shaft drive gear. Refer to Balance Shaft Replacement for alignment of the balance shaft drive gear and the driven gear.
- Install the timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Refer to Timing Chain, Sprockets, and/or Tensioner Replacement .
- Install the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement .
- Install the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement .
- Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement .
- Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement (Gas) .
- Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac N Fill) .
- Recharge the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
