Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  3. Remove the wiring harness retainer from the bracket.
  4. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  5. Remove the oil level indicator tube bracket bolts.

  6. Remove the bracket.
  7. Remove the fuel filter. Refer to Fuel Filter Replacement .
  8. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler tube. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Cooler Tube Replacement .
  9. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose/pipe. Refer to Crankcase Ventilation Hoses/Pipes Replacement .
  10. Disconnect the fuel rail balance pipe from the fuel rails.
  11. Remove the fuel rail balance pipe bolts.
  12. Remove the fuel rail balance pipe.

  13. Remove the wiring harness retainer from the bracket.
  14. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  15. Remove the oil level indicator tube bracket bolts.

  16. Remove the bracket.
  17. Prior to removing the fuel injector pipes, use compressed air to blow any debris from between the injector line and fittings. Wipe the fittings clean of debris.
  18. Spray lithium grease, GM P/N 12346293 or equivalent, between the fuel injector line and fittings to assist in containing any debris during removal.
    19. NOTE: DO NOT use compressed air to clean debris from the fuel injector inlet after the fuel line is removed. Using compressed air can allow debris to enter the fuel injector inlet and damage the fuel injector.

  19. Remove the fuel injector pipes.
  20. Remove the fuel rail bolts.
  21. Remove the fuel rail.
