Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 GMC Sierra and 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement .
  4. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5LD Inch Axles)  or Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle w/Drum Brakes) .

  6. Remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J 44685  (8. See Special Tools .6 inch and 9.5 inch LD axles) (1) and the J 2619-01  (2).

  8. Remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J 29712  (9. See Special Tools .5 inch axle).
