Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake caliper bracket (1).
    2. IMPORTANT: If reusing the caliper bracket bolts the threads of the caliper bracket bolts and the threads of the knuckle mounting holes must be free of residue and debris prior to application of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.
  2. Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly:
    • Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Thoroughly clean the residue from the threaded holes by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canada P/N 10953488), or equivalent to 2/3 of the threaded length of the lower caliper bracket bolts. Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
    • Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation.
    3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

  3. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 225 N.m (166 lb ft).

  4. Install the outer brake pad springs (1).
  5. Install the inner brake pad springs (2).

  6. Install the outer brake pad (1).
  7. Install the inner brake pad (2).
    8. IMPORTANT: If reusing the caliper bracket bolts the threads of the caliper bracket bolts and the threads of the knuckle mounting holes must be free of residue and debris prior to application of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.
  8. Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly:

  9. Install the brake caliper to the caliper bracket.
  10. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install the guide pin bolts (1).

    Tighten: 

    • For JE5, tighten the bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
    • For J55, tighten the bolts to 65 N.m (48 lb ft).

  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
