Removal Procedure

  1. Disengage the energy storage box (ESB) service disconnect/connect. Refer to Energy Storage Box (ESB) Service Disconnect/Connect (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Air Conditioning .
  3. Remove the fan shroud - lower. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Lower in Engine Cooling.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the passenger side closeout bolt and closeout.

    6. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  6. Install the J 46093  (1) and bolts. See Special Tools .

    The flange on J 46093  should locate into the hole in the flexplate. See Special Tools . Use 2 M10 1.5 x 40 mm bolts for proper tool operation.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.

    Do not discard the crankshaft balancer bolt. The balancer bolt will be used during the balancer installation procedure.

  8. Use the J 41816  and J 41816-2  in order to remove the crankshaft balancer. See Special Tools .
  9. Remove the J 41816  and the J 41816-2  from the crankshaft balancer. See Special Tools .
  10. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection .
