WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Tools Required
- 87 92 210 Support, Differential Bearing. See Special Tools .
- J 8107-2 Side Bearing Puller Pilot. See Special Tools .
- J 22888-20A Universal Two Jaw Puller. See Special Tools .
- Mount the differential in a vise with soft jaws.
- Remove the differential bearings using the J 22888-20A with the J 8107-2 . See Special Tools . Use the 87 92 210 as a base for the puller as shown. See Special Tools .
- Disassemble the differential gear assembly by removing 12 ring gear-to-case bolts (306). Separate the differential case (320) from the ring gear (307).
An option for limited slip differential or open differential exists for some models. See inset. Both differential assemblies are serviced only as a complete assembly. The bolts, ring gear and tapered roller bearings are serviceable components.
NOTE:
The thread on adapter must be used on the 5th gear puller when removing the differential bearings. If the adapter is not used, the puller can be damaged.
